Holy Week in Costa Rica
It’s the holidays
Easter is just around the corner and the whole country is getting ready to boil!
During the week of Easter (Semana Santa) the country is full of large Catholic processions. Historical reconstructions, in the form of parades in the streets of the main cities, punctuate the days of this Semana Santa (Holy Week). The sounds of the drums and trumpets of the Roman legions resound in the streets.
It is also Easter that the majority of Costa Ricans go on vacation, especially on the Pacific coast. It’s an opportunity for them to meet up with their family and celebrate this special week. At the pace of processions, processions and parades flood the streets of towns and villages of the country.
Among the most famous processions, there are those in Tres Rios, in Cartago, Santo Domingo in Heredia and that of San Joaquin De Flores in Heredia.
The highlight being the processions of Thursday and Friday … they gather masses of faithful and see extras recreate scenes of passion in period costumes. Without a doubt, an authentic and enriching experience for your holidays!
Particularity at this time, from Wednesday and until Friday, the sale of alcohol is prohibited throughout the country, whether in supermarkets, small grocery stores (pulperias) or in bars.
Where to go to Easter in Costa Rica?
Costa Ricans enjoy a holiday to go to the Pacific beaches like Tamarindo, Santa Teresa or Manuel Antonio. The beaches of the Caribbean are also very popular with the beaches of Cahuita and Puerto Viejo de Limon which have their preference. You can try to find more hotels available but the task will prove difficult.
